Sid’s Cafe

Hello UeaTers!

Those of you walking through Sidney Smith Hall must have noticed the bright, spacious, shiny new cafeteria on the lower level. You asked for a happier, friendlier space with more choices reflecting student tastes…and we delivered.

The Sid Smith renovations took place during the summer, and the grand opening of the cafeteria took place on September 23, 2009. If you went to grab a coffee or a shawarma at Sid’s Cafe on September 23rd, you may have also noticed Georgie, Student Life’s newest robot. Yes, we said ROBOT. Georgie wandered through the halls at Sid Smith, took a tour of Sid’s Cafe, and posed for a few photographs. In attendance at the grand opening alongwith Georgie were: Director of Ancillary Services, Anne Mcacdonald; Director of Food Services, Jaco Lokker, President of the Arts and Science Students’ Union, Gavin Nowlan; ASSU execs Julie He and Grant Gonzales; and Georgie’s co-creator and current mother..err…baby sitter…caretaker, Cynthia from UpbeaT.

If you haven’t already visited Sid’s Cafe, come on down this week. You will notice that the natural light keeps the room warm during cold mornings; the high ceilings spread out the noise; the new food stations offer a variety of fresh, healthy choices; and the comfy chairs and fireplace create a great place to hang out after class and catch up with friends.

We hope you enjoy this new space.
